What is the difference between "pixel-block size" and "target grid"?

Block size derives the grid from the source (e.g. 512px with block 8 → 64×64). Target grid sets a game-ready size such as 32×32 or 64×64 directly. Both modes use the same grid for preview and export, so the block count you see is the block count you download.

How do I use a project palette?

Import a GIMP .gpl, JASC .pal or Adobe .ase file, or click the PICO-8 / Game Boy / NES presets. The palette is locked onto the pixel grid; you can still edit, add or delete colors. “Back to auto quantization” returns to median-cut.

When should I use 1×, integer scale, or indexed PNG?

1× is the true pixel resolution (e.g. 64×64) for engines or further editing in Aseprite. 2×/4× nearest-neighbor upscales keep hard edges for store art or UI. Indexed PNG writes a paletted file (transparency at index 0); reduce to 256 colors or apply a palette first if needed.

How do I pixelate a sprite sheet animation or GIF?

Drop several PNGs (sorted by filename) or one GIF. Every frame uses the same grid and palette so playback does not flicker. Preview the animation, then export a ZIP or GIF. “Shared palette across frames” builds the colors from all frames together.
