No. Image decoding, region detection, slicing and packing all happen locally in your browser — files are never uploaded to any server, secure and fast.

How does "auto-detect scattered regions" work?

Accepted Answer

The tool treats transparent pixels (or pixels close to the background color) as background, then uses a connected-component algorithm to find disjoint independent elements and takes their bounding boxes as slices. It works well for background-free sprite sheets, icon sets and loose images. If elements stick together, lower the tolerance or reduce the merge gap; if one element is split into several boxes, increase the merge gap.

Can I edit the grid or detected results manually?

Yes. Switching to "Manual" does not clear existing boxes. After generation, every box can be dragged, resized with handles, or edited via precise X / Y / width / height inputs; you can also create, duplicate or delete boxes.

How are the exported files named? What is slices.json?

By default files are numbered in reading order as "prefix_001.png"; grid slices can also use "prefix_r01_c02". Each thumbnail can be renamed. The ZIP can include slices.json with each slice's x / y / width / height on the source image (plus exported canvas size) for engine pipelines.

What does "unified canvas size" do?

Auto-detected sprites often have different bounds, which makes animation frames jitter. When enabled, every slice is padded to the max width/height and aligned top-left, center, or bottom-center (typical for character sprites) so every exported frame shares the same canvas size.

Question 7

Auto-detect fails on images without a transparent background. What should I do?

Accepted Answer

If the image has no transparent background, you will be asked whether to matte first. Confirm to remove the background with AI, then detect by alpha. You can also switch to “Smart split”: it cuts objects out as transparent PNGs without requiring a matted source, and overlapping assets export separately. For a flat color background you can skip matting and detect by background color instead.

Objects overlap in the sheet. Will exports include the neighbor?

Grid and auto-detect crop rectangles, so overlap includes neighboring pixels. Smart split cuts along the object contour, so the export is a transparent PNG of that object only.
